Jody – hello, notice this is your first post to our forum – welcome. I’m gonna give you my two cents worth and if I’m making any erroneous assumptions, ie. you already know what I’m saying, please take no offense.

$.01 The most important thing to realize is that The Archive is gift to us all - from those who made the music, those that maintain the site and the true warriors who stayed in one place during the shows while the rest of us freely danced. The GD powers at be made the decision to maintain the rights on any recording that includes a soundboard source, but so far have kindly still let us download audience sources. We are also able to utilize the Archives’ flash player to listen to soundboards that haven’t been commercially released.

I have never posted a review and only recently joined in with this gang of misfits on the GD forum, but let me say this: if you come here perhaps as a result of reading a long winded “review” (maybe a couple of times on the same page) that promotes this Real Player activity, I would softly suggest skipping over those (there are painfully MANY and under different names too.) Those who truly appreciate the archive will treat this treasure (and those who reside/visit here) with the respect the music deserves. The Dead don’t want us to download soundboards – so it is foolish to talk about doing so here.

$.02 As the kind folk here are telling you, shows are available for trading through bit torrent sites. I am not savvy with this myself but have benefited from a friend who does (his interests are not the GD unfortunately.) There is much debate regarding lossless/lossy. It is the times we live in, mp3 players, digital transfer of music over the internet, collectors, casual listeners….

To sum up - when you stream music online it comes in a lossy mp3 format, “tapping” this stream (personally I wouldn’t call it downloading) is something best not discussed here.

Happy listening and long live the music of the Grateful Dead! vapors

There are plenty of good AUDs to be had here at the archive. And if you want the good stuff in high quality then go the bit torrent way - I myself have been too lazy to do bt so far, and I'm down to only 12 gig left on the ole hard drive. May have to go splurge on some external hd soon then play around with utorrent some rainy weekend.

I,ve got some hd issues as well, one thing I figured out though is once the show(s) is finished downloading I let it seed to a ratio of about 1.5:1 then because of space on my drive its time to give it a home in my archive. I purchased a few CD-RW disc and after burning the lossy to disc I take and burn the show to the RW disc then rerip the show to my hd using 320 kbs MP3, after that I erase the RW and then place the lossy data on a 4.7 gb DVD and then remove the file from my hd, If somthing should happen to my harddrive or the audio disc I have a backup for my files and by reripping the show to 320kbs MP3 Ive reduced the file by over two thirds or more. kind of a pain but these shows are priceless in my eyes and want to make sure 1) I can enjoy it and 2) I can safegaurd it. As much as I would like to keep and seed everything I dl its just not possible. If there is something I have that needs further seeding I have the data to upload.

sounds like a labor of love

I listen mostly while working so 99% of what I listen to I simply stream from archive. I have alot of the good AUDs burned to disc for the car player
I also have alot of great discs sent to me by the especially generous folks here on the forum!!

I tend to give away lots of the AUD copies of what I do have so am constantly buying blanks and burning new copies.

Get a torrent client like utorrent or vuze go to bt.etree and download till your hearts content. I went through this w/ whats his face and my intent was never to take anything that wasn't meant for me to have. I dont like swearing on this forum but to hell w/ that joker/ a**h*** With help from this archive I now have the means and the know how to do it right . If the powers to be don't want to put the sbd shows up for dl its there right. Go to bt.etr, lossless legs.com or even nugs.net although they (nugs) only have about 45 to dl bt.etree has thousands good riddance to that peice of garbage

Hi Hippie 64 :I tried to get access to GD forum on losslesslegs after registration, but it didn't connect ,saying I had to be on irc.p2p-network.net,which said to get on mibbit.com ,and this talk about torrent client and seeding stuff on losslesslegs way beyond my understanding ,so in result ,I can't be on that GD forum , and totally appriciate that archive is easy for beginners for this here GD forum !

I can't tell you anything about that GD forum I only use it as a means to find shows that aren't on bt.etree. If I had to deal w/ another GD forum I'm afraid I'd be ready for the padded cell

The first thing that comes to mind is maybe somebody decided to fix the problem after all the countless reviews by you-know-who explaining how to use RealPlayer to download shows that aren't supposed to be downloaded.

Is anyone really shocked?

I don't think they've made any changes on the 'Archive' side so, if you can get the player to play the music through your PC, then it still exists somewhere on your PC so you should still be able to grab it, one way or another.I know I can. That said, I am not vindicating 'You know who's' piss poor stance re: this aspect.

I notice he changed his screen name two or three times too. He does like three or four "reviews" per show at times.
